Our Editorial Process

Cold exposure affects the heart, the nervous system, and — for some readers — active medical conditions. That’s why every article on Plunge Peak goes through our five-step editorial process before it’s published, described in full below.

Faisal Iqbal

Founder & Lead Writer, Plunge Peak

Faisal founded Plunge Peak to build the resource he wished existed when he first got curious about cold water immersion: one place that explains the practice honestly, without dismissing it as a fad or overselling it as a cure. He researches and writes every guide on the site personally, drawing on published research, manufacturer documentation, and consumer safety guidance.

Scope of expertise, stated plainly: Faisal is not a physician, physiologist, or licensed healthcare provider. He is a researcher and writer who specializes in translating published science and safety guidance into practical, readable guides. Every article that touches on health outcomes is written to reflect what the cited research actually says — and to say clearly when the evidence is limited, mixed, or still developing. Medical questions specific to your body belong with a doctor, not a website, and every relevant article says so.

Before anything gets published

Our five-step editorial process

Define the question a reader actually has

Every article starts from a specific, practical question — “is this safe for me,” “what temperature should I use,” “what does this actually cost” — rather than a keyword to fill a content calendar. If a topic doesn’t map to a genuine reader question, it doesn’t get written.

Gather primary and reputable sources

We start with peer-reviewed studies, systematic reviews, and guidance from recognized health and physiology bodies, then cross-reference against manufacturer specifications and consumer safety data where the topic is gear- or cost-related. Where research is thin, sparse, or preliminary, the article says so instead of presenting it as settled.

Write for accuracy first, readability second

Claims are hedged the same way the underlying research is hedged. If a study shows a correlation, the article doesn’t describe it as a guarantee. Numbers are attributed to what they actually measured — a single study’s finding is presented as exactly that, not as universal fact.

Add a safety and disclaimer review

Any article touching cardiovascular risk, pregnancy, chronic conditions, or medication interactions is checked against our Medical Disclaimer standards before publishing, and flagged prominently at the top of the piece — not buried in a footer.

Review, publish, and revisit

Published articles aren’t static. When new research emerges, a stat is challenged, or a reader flags something unclear, the article is updated and the revision date reflects that — not backdated, not silently changed. Our editorial process keeps every guide current long after publication.

Sourcing standards

What we cite — and what we don’t

Cold plunge content online is full of numbers that get repeated so often they’re mistaken for consensus. We try to do the opposite: trace a claim back to where it actually came from, and say so when we can’t. This sourcing discipline sits at the heart of our editorial process.

We prioritize

  • Peer-reviewed physiology and sports-medicine journals
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses over single studies
  • Guidance from established health organizations
  • Manufacturer specifications for gear-related claims
  • Clearly labeled personal testing notes, marked as such

We avoid relying on

  • Uncredited “studies show” claims with no traceable source
  • Anecdotal social media claims presented as established fact
  • Content mills or sites that don’t disclose authorship
  • Marketing copy repeated verbatim as if it were independent finding

Editorial independence

Plunge Peak may display ads to support the site. Advertising never determines what we write, which products we mention, or how we rate them — every recommendation reflects our own research, not a paid arrangement. This separation between revenue and recommendations is enforced at every stage of our editorial process. If that changes in the future, this page and a dedicated disclosure will be updated first.

In short

What our editorial process guarantees every reader

No fabricated credentials

We state exactly what our writer does and doesn’t know, and point you to a doctor for anything specific to your health.

No invented statistics

Every number traces back to a real source. Where evidence is limited, the article says so instead of rounding up.

No pay-to-play rankings

No brand, sponsor, or manufacturer can buy placement, a higher score, or a more favorable review on this site.

No stale, unreviewed pages

Our editorial process means articles are revisited as research develops, not published once and forgotten.

No burying the disclaimer

Health-relevant cautions sit at the top of the article, before the practical advice — not in fine print at the bottom.

No anonymous authorship

Every article is written by a named, accountable person you can see above.
